My husband and I needed a portable air conditioner for our computer room as it is upstairs in our apartment and central air conditioning is inefficient at bringing cold air into the room. attic. It would be 5-10 degrees hotter upstairs than in the rest of the apartment. Since our computer room had multiple computers and electronics, it got unbearably hot in the summer months and turning off the AC didn't help (only the bottom floor was colder while the top floor was the same temperature). After much fiddling with ducts/vents to try and "duct" cold air to the top floor, we gave up and ordered this air conditioner. It was a good buy. It was easy to install with some basic tools (it took a hacksaw to cut the window piece to size) and we also bought some weathering foam to create a better seal around the window piece. We've been working non-stop all summer and most fall off with no problem. I regularly vacuum the filter in it for maintenance, but other than that, no maintenance was required. It cools our computer room (about 10 feet by 10 feet) very well with the door closed and if we leave the door to the hallway and adjoining bedroom open it cools those rooms down a few degrees as well. We didn't really try to get the temperature below 70 degrees, but at 70 degrees it does a great job of keeping the first room consistently cool, and around 72 degrees in the adjoining rooms. Before that we had to turn the air conditioning up to 67 degrees. degrees and hold it the whole time to get a cool 72 degrees at the top. Terribly inefficient. This has saved us some money on cooling costs as the underside can now be left at a constant 72 degrees and the top can be cooled down to 72 degrees with a portable unit to supplement the central air conditioning. So far we are very happy with this purchase and would recommend it as an additional cooling device.
