With all the mixed reviews about smells and size/thickness I bought this with a lot of doubts and concerns as to what I really am, sorry about that . I don't know, maybe it's my 2020 model, but this mattress is great! (for my kids) Photo with tape measure was only 4-5 hours after opening. And as soon as I unwrapped it, I buried my face in it and sniffed it hard to make sure it didn't smell bad. I felt absolutely nothing (fortunately). I bought two of these as Ikea Kura loft mattresses for my two kids (4 and 7 years old). As you can see it comes just within the recommended limit in terms of thickness (see the dotted line Ikea cut into the wood). They worry that the thicker mattress could cause children to roll right over the railing and fall. First thing I noticed was the gap between the mattress and the size of the bed, but the sheets and bedspreads are fine. In fact, you probably need that wiggle room to make your bed easier to make. It's big enough to read to kids before bedtime. It's also super comfortable. I totally disagree with the criticisms of people on this front. I was so concerned about this purchase that I vowed to do a full review with photos to save others. Do not doubt! Again, this is likely a 2020 version issue, so beware, just in case.
