I have used tap water in all my tanks for many years and always use Prime. My tap water in my city is treated with ammonia, which is deadly to fish. After years of using Prime, my water became so acidic that it barely showed up below pH 6.0 in the API Master Test Kit. I had to buffer the water with crushed coral for years and couldn't figure it out. The fish shop recommended I try the Ultamat, and I ended up doing it. All years of problems are gone. As a precaution, I prepare water in buckets at least 2 days before use. I use about 3ml per 5 gallon bucket for water treatment and now it even maintains a pH of up to 7.0. No need for crushed coral. Just be aware that with this product you will get a false positive result for ammonia within a few days so don't worry. I am very glad I found this product and will never use anything else again. I've had this bottle for a year now, I'm processing at least 50 gallons a month and still have over 3/4 of a bottle. So the bottle lasts a long time!
