Review on πŸ’Ύ Aiposen 1.8 IDE Adapter with CF to 50 Pin by Travis Chavis

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Not the easiest of projects, not plug and play and requires attention to detail. Be careful when modding and everything should work just fine.

It has the long straight through cables that another reviewer mentioned. In my case it didn't turn out to be that devastating because I knew in advance thanks to this helpful review and just trimmed the extra length out of those leads. I am using this in a Gigabeat F40 which has an exposed circuit board under (over?) disk space. This renders even the sanded leads inadequate, so I covered as many as possible with a layer of clear epoxy. I could (or probably shouldn't) do this for the jumper, but it shouldn't matter since that side faces away from the board. It might not be necessary because filling in the space around the CF card + adapter should create a gap between those things, but I'm a cautious person who loves bells and whistles. I used mounting putty to fill in the space around it and soften it so it doesn't wobble while I'm holding the device. I had to cut out the black plastic tabs on the side of the connector so the dowel pins on the Gigabeat connector didn't get in the way or interfere with mating. Everything is fine with all the protrusions, the connector still didn't go all the way, but it was close enough and it works. So everything worked out and now I have a Gigabeat F40 that no longer makes the dreaded clicks and works perfectly. . I give it a high rating for its success, but the potential damage uncut leads can cause deprives it of a star. If the manufacturer wanted to go one step further, they would have found a way to prevent traces, wires or contacts from making contact with adjacent parts.

Pros
  • Not cheap but decent
Cons
  • Nothing
