Works great, a family member bought a new laptop not knowing it didn't have a DVD drive, used this and an old laptop's DVD drive to make an external drive. I moved the old laptop hard drive to the slot it comes in, which allowed the new laptop to copy files directly from the old hard drive. I then put the DVD drive in the case and the old HDD and tray in the old laptop and added the SSD as the main drive. Give an old laptop a little extra life for another family member and eliminate the need to purchase an external DVD drive. I had no problems with the $5 discount either.
