Review on πŸ‘“ Tuff Plastic Frame 4-Pak Readers: Convenient Spare Pair (0.75) - For All Occasions! by Katie Miller

Great value for money parts

I'll admit I'm very excited to see how they turn out after reading so many different reviews. So here are my observations: Firstly I'm not sure if they are the exact same style as in the picture, the ones I received look a little more rectangular than the ones in the photo which look a little more oval on the outside edges. But it's a very subtle difference, if there is one it could just be the angle in the photo, I can't tell exactly. All four pairs are black; very black as can be seen in the close-up photo of a single pair. For some reason, another photo showing all four pairs seems brighter, at least to me. Anyway, they're all solid, glossy black. The frames are very cheap plastic, with some rough edges here and there due to molded seams. The temple tips were sharp on a couple of pairs and I filed them with a nail file like the other reviewer did and they are fine. There were no cases and I'm not really complaining, they were certainly cheap enough but I thought I read they come with drawstring pouches or something but apparently they don't. So just know there are no cases. They came in separate cellophane wrappers so they didn't scratch each other. I agree with other reviews that said they are small. The overall size is small, which means if you have a big head, it will not be very convenient. I wouldn't think an average sized man would wear them apart from a few positive reviews about men or women buying them for men so obviously they do fit some men. But they are quite small, especially in width. I'm a petite woman with a thin to medium sized face and they were good but when I take them off I notice that the sides recede meaning they were pulled out slightly to fit my head. I don't care but for someone with a wider head they may seem too tight which won't be very comfortable. I know it's impossible to appreciate all of this without seeing the dimensions of the head, but I hope this helps a little. Also, as another reviewer wrote, I find the nosepieces too narrow so they don't sit properly on the bridge of the nose. . My nose isn't big, but it's not very small or narrow either, so they sit a little higher than they should. No one will ever see me wearing them, I bought them to use as spares around the house so I don't care but I was just mentioning it for others. Things I like: They are very light and actually quite comfortable despite the aforementioned shortcomings. I prefer plastic over metal because nose pads bother me, but plastic often feels heavy or clunky on my face; it's not like this. So the cheap plastic turns out to be an advantage when it comes to how light and comfortable they feel on the face. The lenses are surprisingly clear. Excellent condition and clarity, not foggy or distorted at all. In fact, I compared them to reading glasses I already had and was surprised to find that they are clearer than my old ones, which I was perfectly happy with. I ordered them at +1.25 power and they seem absolutely spot on as far as dioptric power goes. Zero complaints about lenses. One thing that only has to be thrown away in case anyone is still wondering: These are not "half images”, i.e. half images that you wear low on your nose and look at. They could be used that way, but it wouldn't be ideal as the top of the frames aren't flat. In my opinion they are best worn in a full frame. So overall I'm happy with them for the price. It would be great to have a pair in the kitchen for a cookbook, a pair for my bedside table, etc. Again, I stress that they won't fit large heads, but other than that, given the overall value, minor imperfections are easy to miss. In conclusion, as an Optican retiree, I'll give the following tips for these and all glasses: Always take them off with BOTH hands, that's the key. If you rip them off with one hand, more expensive glasses will warp and cheap ones like these will pop out of the lenses. If you absolutely must take them off with one hand, at least hold them at the front of the frame, around the lens, but don't grab your "arm" and take them off that way or the lenses will pop . sooner or later, usually earlier. Also, wet your lenses when you clean them. Avoid Windex on cheap plastic as it can get foggy at times. Ideally, apply a small dab of washing-up liquid to your fingertips, swipe lightly on both sides, and rinse under cold water. Wipe dry with a soft cloth, a facial tissue will do, but avoid paper towels. Don't over dry them and never rub them unless you've rinsed them. Lenses scratch when wiping dry! This is the main cause of scratches when people reach for a shirt and essentially rub small particles on the lens. Even plain water will at least remove surface dust if soap isn't available. I realize this isn't always convenient for everyone and it's a tricky habit to rip off with one hand, but these are just a few tips to help you get the most bang for your buck. Have fun while reading!
