I bought this to house a 250GB Evo 970 NVME M.2 drive. I am using this as a Time Machine backup drive for my MacBook Pro 2016. I wanted to speed up Time Machine backup/restore and also use it for high speed data transfer. As you can see in the attached image, I'm getting over 930 reads and over 850 writes. The onboard Apple NVME storage is about 2x faster. However, this unit is still twice the speed of the regular Evo SSD I've used. There are much faster external drives out there, but none at this price point. $36 for the body and I paid $75 for the Evo 970. At around $110 total it can't be beat for speed and value. You can find drives that are twice as fast but three times as expensive. It gets pretty hot under load, but that's typical for these passively cooled drives/enclosures.
