This is my fourth MP3 player. I used to have a 40GB iPod 4th gen, a 20GB Creative Zen Touch and currently I have a 1GB Sandisk flash player and a new black iPod 5th gen 30GB video player. When I opened the box and took out the player, I was amazed at how thin it is. My 4th generation iPod was much thicker at 40GB. I think the 80GB Gen 5 model will be about the same thickness as my Gen 4 model. The screen is larger and very clear. At first all I needed was a music player, but after downloading a few video podcasts (free from iTunes) and seeing how high the quality of the videos is, I'm very happy that I can play videos alongside music. After getting used to the Zen Touch scrollbar I forgot how convenient it is to use the iPod scroll wheel, it's the most natural user interface I can imagine (except for the voice) and it's a joy to use them, apart from the fact that it's a clockwise down arrow and a counterclockwise up arrow. I can't remember if this has always been the case with iPods, but to scroll down I naturally want to "anti" scroll (I'm right-handed) and I find it a bit odd to do the opposite (maybe is it just me). The sound quality is very good - not better than the Zen Touch, but very good. I wish there were configurable EQ options, but maybe that will come in a future firmware update. Using iTunes is a joy. I know how limited it is, but I just love the interface and its functionality. I like the fact that after subscribing to podcasts, new episodes are automatically downloaded and then synced to iPod; something like a recording function of the DVR series. The lack of a docking station (which came with my 4th generation iPod) as well as a mains charger is a bit of a nuisance, but I think removing it has helped keep the iPod priced at a very reasonable level so I can't complain . The battery life is much better than the 4th generation iPod and I think the sound quality is too. At first the iPod I got from Revain looked like it was set to Kazakh by default, but if I played around with the settings (and hoped for the best) I was able to change the language to English, so don't panic if you connect it. him for the first time. up you don't understand a word! The iPod is still king, as these latest models show.
