I never write product reviews but I do take the time for this PERFECT toy. I wanted my son's first car and had a choice between this and Kid o Car. Since he was about 7 months old I didn't want to take anything too small (like Matchbox cars) that could potentially pose a choking hazard, or more importantly (haha) that I would always take out from under the furniture. Also, I didn't want anything too big for his little glove. This softball sized machine is PERFECT for him. It's about the size of a kid's car. However, this is where the similarity ends. This car is far superior to the children's car. There are popping balloons on the top to add a sound element. And when you pull it back, it spins and hurtles forward like the Matchbox cars I know will have in the future. After buying this toy, I realized that my son is a real boy. He can play with this toy for up to an hour. And since we have 2 of them, we have "races" and "car crashes" and can play with them. In addition, this car costs about half the price of a children's car! He's just over a year old now and he's still walking behind this toy. Have you ever looked at a toy and thought of a thousand ways to make it better? That won't happen with this toy. I can't imagine how it could be better. It's colorful, has a sound, clockwork, big and costs less than $10! At this price it's worth a try. My boy has had this toy since he was 8 months old and now he has 2 of them (one on top and one on bottom). Whenever I'm trying to figure out what to give him so I can spend another 10 minutes in the kitchen, I reach for this toy. At $5.99 you won't get more bang for your buck! I can't stress this enough. As for people who write bad reviews, if you read them, they're a little funny. First, as my child gets older, they will switch to toys that are more age-appropriate. I would not recommend this toy for a child over the age of 1 1/2 as they will then need to transition to matchbox train and car sets or even little people sets. Right now and especially. At 8 months these toys have too many functions for my son that he doesn't understand and/or use. Second, even if you skip the full description, I think you can infer the toy-sized price point. This toy couldn't be any bigger and the same quality for $5.99. I would like to add that I don't want this toy to be any bigger because then I wouldn't like to toss it in a diaper bag. Finally, before purchasing a toy, consider gender differences in play and your child's personality. I wouldn't buy this toy for a girl if I didn't know that she is very active and doesn't realize that when she is playing she is usually attracted to boys and boys toys. My child is very active and loves to tear things apart and run around with typical boy playfulness. He wouldn't sit down for tea and he wouldn't enjoy feeding the doll. These are the gender differences in the game. He's loud, messy and always on the go, so this active toy is perfect for him. I hate buying expensive things for a child when I'm not sure they will like it. So many toys are torn up and thrown away. But not this cheeky little car! Love it!
