These remote controls are very fragile. This is my third - and I live in a family of two older women, not a bunch of violent kids. The one I bought 6 months ago lost the springs in the battery compartment making it unusable. The first one just broke. Unfortunately, there aren't many options for this particular TV - my stupid wired remote isn't programmable for the TV at all. If you have a universal remote that allows you to avoid this remote, use it. It's terrible.
