The Buffalo MiniStation Extreme is designed and performs exactly as described. (There is only one wire for the USB 3.0 connector, however. The image may indicate that there are multiple connectors.) The device has a short (2ft?) USB 3.0 connector that allows the drive to be plugged into a hard surface can be placed; not on your processor. I used it for weekly backups for three weeks. Works great with (Win 7) Windows Backup. No additional configuration or setup of the device is required unless you require encryption. Since it's USB 3, backups are created quickly (and silently). I haven't timed it with a stopwatch, but in terms of time I estimate it takes about 10% of what a USB 2.0 backup device would take.
