Review on Acer Predator XN253Q Pbmiprzx 24.5" Monitor, 1920X1080 Resolution, 144Hz Refresh Rate, Built-In Speakers, HDMI by Jesse Jacobs

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Decent upgrade from 144Hz

+240 is good, but it's a slight improvement over 144Hz as other Youtube reviewers have mentioned. I was able to shoot a little more easily and consistently with the Overwatch McCree than with a 120Hz monitor, but I need more testing to confirm this. 240Hz is almost as sharp from the UFO test as 144Hz ULMB. But of course the picture is MUCH brighter without ULMB, further improving clarity. Acer had a press release saying it would be a 200Hz ULMB, but that seems like overzealous marketing for which I have to give one star. I also had to shut down twice to enable the ULMB option. + Very good color. I have a Dell S2340M monitor alongside the IPS glass screen and it's almost as good. I wouldn't design this one, but it's good. + Minimalist design, not flashy like ASUS model. + Gsync works fine. - There are some very thin vertical pixel inversion lines that appear during movement, but they are very noticeable, poorly visible, and irregular in shape. I had an ASUS PG278Q with very noticeable inversion lines that I couldn't stand. My old BenQ 144hz and cheaper 120hz didn't have that, don't know what happened to the current generation of monitors. The speakers are terribly bad. I used another Acer Ultrawide with great sound, so I was surprised at how tinny and distant they sound. The Asus model has no speakers. Probably overpriced, but this is one of the first monitors to offer this refresh rate, so paying extra has unfortunately been the norm for a while. optimized like Overwatch and CSGO.
