I really liked my 1st gen Surface laptop (i5 processor, 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD) and really wanted the 2nd gen with i7 processor and Try double the memory size: Unfortunately, I found this frustrating. It appears to have less battery life, is slower and definitely NOT faster. (I use it for business purposes with 3-5 programs at a time: Word, Excel, Adobe, Chrome -> 5 tabs). The 2nd gen didn't seem superior to the 1st in any way, so it wasn't worth the extra cost. He also seemed more sensitive to heat and cold. I ended up having to go back because (that was the icing on the cake) in 3 weeks still couldn't get the 2nd gen to back up from my external hard drive - maybe I got a lemon. TL; 2nd Gen DR is free, save it for your next device with (hopefully) physical/physical upgrades. Also, please note that SURFACE NOTEBOOKS ARE NOT REPAIRED. So if there's a problem that's outside of the 1-year warranty, you can't fix it. You'll have to buy a new one or pray that Microsoft will be on your side if it fails *cough, unlikely*.
