I use these jars for spices and herbs, they replace plastic containers. The square shape fits sideways in my drawer to keep cans from rolling around. The metal lids are fine, quite thin. Plastic shake or pour inserts are fine for smaller items, but I don't use them for dried, chopped leafy herbs so they can be scooped out with measuring spoons. Because the labels were gloss black, I had to purchase a Permanent Light Marker (silver) to print the titles of the content. I prefer light colored labels that can be used with a regular pen or a dark fine marker. Overall I'm happy with the jars and my spice drawer looks very clean and organized! I used a non-slip liner to keep the jars from sliding back when I close the drawer.
