When using this device, I can plug the power adapter into the connector instead of my Mac Book Pro. This reduces my chances of breaking the connection in the Mac book. It's a lot cheaper to replace the power adapter and power cord than to get someone into the Mac book and fix the internal connection. I often unplug and plug the power cord back in, I don't want to have any problems. I think that's how I get the best result.
