Apparently plastic straws are very unstable and paper straws are expected to become mush. This was the first disposable alternative I found and I'm about 90% happy with it. You won't be able to tell they aren't plastic when blindfolded when offered a drink unless you try to bend or crush them as they tear and often become unusable. If you're not rough with them, they work great; Just don't put them in ice cubes or at the bottom of a cup.
