Inexpensive but cheap

Not installed yet but reviews are mixed so decided to give it a try and see what the problem areas are. At first glance you can see that the screws in the mounting brackets are too long and can damage the bar against which they are pressed. Easy to attach, shorten or replace with shorter ones. I could lengthen the holes and use a hex head (instead of a Phillips head) to allow left/right adjustment. If you take it apart you'll notice that some silicone sealant has been used around the wires and on the mounting screws. Overall a very poor attempt at sealing. Probably why some died in the first week or two. The hole for the cables on the back was not sealed at all and the CFL Angel Eyes wiring was exposed from below; another possible water entry point. I wanted to get inside to kill the source of the red "devil eye" but the only option was to cut the CFL wiring to unscrew the lens frame. Inside, the red LED on the board is easy to see just below the CFL cable outlet. I'm just going to put some neoprene roofing glue on top to block it while I waterproof the rest of the build. The red light doesn't do me any good, it's just a cheap distraction that's always on. It's off center and just looks silly to me. The big tail cone is just empty plastic. The business part of things is inside the aluminum case. I think they could look a lot better without that rear end and the big armored mounts. Perhaps they will be trimmed and simplified a bit. Overall they are light for the price and a good size. It's a shame they have a red demon eye, poor weather protection, and an overall cheap look.
