Review on Enhanced MOOG 330 Universal Joint by Vedprakash Trilltight

Revainrating 2 out of 5

With poor parts quality control

2001 Chevy HD 2500 4x4 - 2 piece driveshaft with 3 universal joints, front, center, rear and center main bearing. The rear cardan shaft was defective along with the thrust bearing. Since I had to disassemble everything, it was decided to replace everything. The correctness of the universal joint for the spice driveshaft has been verified on the MOOG website. All appropriate tools, 20 ton press, bearing cage etc. Front yoke removed from front driveshaft by removing universal joint, main bearing removed/replaced from splined shaft with anchor product installed as expected. Interchangeable universal joints were stamped MOOG 330 USA. It was replaced by MOOG 330, made in MEXICO. The replacement was too long to fit in the ring clips. The cap ripped off trying to push down to allow the clips to be installed. After squeezing the bad cap out so we could remove it with pliers, when we flipped it over to force it out, the opposite cap came loose and got stuck in the yoke. I had to cut the joint with a grinder to remove it. It ended up having to painstakingly install two new hinges, clean the US-made universal joint, and reuse it to end a really long day. Precision parts require dimensional accuracy and correctness. It wasn't you.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
