Bought two, one worked, one didn't

Nicely packaged, nice case with screw holes. Good that there is an additional ground wire. First thing I did was follow the instructions to test my 12VDC power supply and it was 12.25V, the limit said 12.5 so I was clear. I soldered the DC connector and quickly tested the first unit and it was excellent. Many ions flew and I could hear and feel the air escaping from the tip. The second brought nothing. Grilling. The same power.
