Light; doesn't look like plastic.
My 6 year old loves this jacket. With two growing boys I have bought many raincoats and this one is a sentinel. It's very light and has a mesh lining so it doesn't stick or sweat. It's not plastic. We have yet to test it in actual rain conditions, but it works well for keeping dry in light rain. The zip is of decent quality and my 6 year old can zip it up with no problem.
