
I bought this to replace an old shift gate which if you look at it probably means you have the same problem as all s40/v50 volvo drivers over 10 years old are – these things are falling apart. I installed this on my car and expected it to solve the problem of not selecting Geartronic, the ability to put it in manual mode. Tightening this part - and yes, I tightened it properly - didn't work. I ended up going down the rabbit hole and replacing the gear selector module 3 times (from a scrapped junkyard), the central control unit/climate control module. Trace the cable from the passenger compartment to the outside, nobody knows where. I towed another of these Volvos at the junkyard and it actually fixed the problem. So it was always this thing. It just didn't work properly, the magnet was either too strong or too weak or not what it was supposed to be. Lost time. wasted money.
