Review on Stay Visible on the Road with CAT EYE Rapid X3 USB Rechargeable LED Bike Safety Light by Eric Wohlman

Not waterproof! on Cycling

While I love this light (I have two now) I won't be buying another one. My last one is sitting in a bag of rice trying to dry out the innards. The problem is that the rubber backing doesn't properly protect the flashlight components from getting wet. There's also a small "boot" that covers the charging port but never stays in place. That's exactly the problem that happened with the first one, and that light lasted a year, maybe two. I liked it so much I replaced it with the same one, but this one suffered the same fate - it burned out within 18 months. The last time I used it it didn't even rain. The streets were slightly damp from the night's rain, enough to roast the ingredients. These lights are great, but too expensive to replace every year or two. However, I like the other features, especially the individual lenses and controls. You can set one side to a specific blink pattern and the other side to a different blink pattern. This creates a really effective ad that will help you get noticed by cars. The light is very bright but not bright enough to blind your buddy who is always sucking at your steering wheel. The battery also seems to last a long time. I've never counted hours, but I know I've had no problem driving 3-4 hours between charges. The attachment system is fine and worked for me. I was careful not to lose the ties or rubber pads that help fit the narrow aero seatposts (I have a TT bike with a fairly low narrow aero seatpost and it fits well). If you only drive on the roads in dry weather without a bit of water, I highly recommend this light. But 2 out of 2 burnouts is too high for me to recommend this product to most people.
