My poor son is just like his mother. We need total darkness to sleep. Even blackout curtains didn't solve the problem because I still had to MacGyver the edges and top of the curtains (think masking tape, thumbtacks, and baby blankets. And yes, it looked as crappy as it sounds, lol). I got tired of constantly fixing it when my kid pulled back the curtains, so I went in search of a blackout lampshade. Pros: - This lampshade couldn't be easier to install. We bought the 30" wide and it fits our window perfectly, no trim needed! - The lampshade adheres very well to the window surface. So far it has handled our son's jerks with ease. - He's blocking the light! Yes, he does exactly what he does! It does such a good job that my husband decided to remove the blackout drapes in the room and put on a pair of flimsy Avengers drapes. The underside of the lampshade prevents it from sitting squarely on the window sill, allowing for a tiny slit of light along the underside. The only reason my husband won the Avengers curtain debate in 2021 is because of the light that gets in , so low. that he does not disturb our child. I really, really, HIGHLY recommend these shades (just make sure you buy room-darkening, unfiltered ones).
