Review on πŸ“Έ IOGEAR GFR204SD Green Card Reader/Writer: Enhance data transfer with SD/MicroSD/MMC compatibility by Kyle Wesener

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great SD/MMC/Micro SD card reader, just handle it with kid gloves.

Update, 04/13/2014: The rating remains the same. I made some small changes to my original review. I actually couldn't find any reviews for this reader that addressed the autoconnect issue in depth [and I'll admit I skimmed a few and just tried to type a few words]. This is why I bought this item in a gamble. I figured that for the price if it didn't work with my car I could always find another use for it without breaking my wallet. Let me give you a little background: When I switched from one mobile phone to another operating system to another (from Android to WP8), I lost USB audio streaming completely because my [then] computer (KIA Forte 2011) only read audio from devices that do allow USB mass storage when the device is plugged in (Android not, WP8 not, it uses Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) which is on every USB enabled computer *I* have driven , is unreadable). It was dangerous to stream music via Bluetooth in my car, since this car only allows volume control using this method, I had to grab the phone to change songs or reach for the windshield mount and fiddle with it that way. Completely unsafe, the focus should be on driving. I ordered a GFR204SD SD/MicroSD/MMC Card Reader/Writer and received it in the mail about three days after ordering [impressive]. As some other reviewers have pointed out, it feels a little flimsy and care should be taken to insert and remove it AS STRAIGHTLY AS POSSIBLE from the device you are using it in, especially if it is very tightly fitted into the USB ports. connection fits. I think it's pretty cool that you can use both standard SD and micro SD in it, but I decided to use my 16GB micro SDHC from my old phone because the standard SD sticks out A LOT ( make sure you insert the micro SD upside down). The micro SD still sticks out the side of the reader by about 1/4 inch and I'm curious to know why they couldn't design the reader to accept the micro SD from the back so you wouldn't accidentally pull out the SD and The micro SD works great in this reader and the transfer speed is very impressive, instantaneous in fact. My old Galaxy S II took about two minutes to sync to my [then] car and had between 2GB and 6GB of music on it at any one time. My reader syncs my 7.25GB collection as soon as I start the engine. Fast and efficient timing has been consistent on every subsequent car I've used it in. Trails pick up where they left off when you start the car again. Overall really great functionality but loses a star if it wasn't for the sensitive feel and chunky protruding memory card design. at oblique angles that make me afraid of damaging it or the card(s). I have bought since my original review because these things are so useful and practical. I definitely recommend it.
