Do you need a cable to use the HDMI cable for MacBook Pro

My wife's MacBook Pro doesn't have any ports other than USB-C so she had to connect it to her 24 inch monitor. adapter so I suggested just getting a straight USB-C to HDMI cable and according to the reviews this one did the job and really works!
