Between purchasers 990/770/880, M50x audio equipment, I made my decision. Before to that, I listened to the Superlux HD681 for ten years (with additional ear-pad inserts), and the sound quality of the Asus Xonar D1 was just as superb and detailed. Meze 99 is only a head off, though. It seemed like a firecracker with colorful confetti went off within my skull. Certainly, the price is not insignificant. I did purchase it by smoking a cigarette. I bought the headphones at 11:00 in the afternoon, and I'm writing a review at 17:00. They play really well, and they haven't even been worn out yet. However, it's not self-deception because over the course of ten years, I spent between $5,000 and $10,000 on seven or eight pairs of headphones. Eventually, I gave all of these headphones to friends and family, but I kept listening to Superlux HD681 with the equalizer set to 30 Hz. I can currently state that the Superlux HD681 is pretty excellent in the up to $10,000 range. Meze perform superior to 990/880/770 customers and M50X audio gear. Maybe there is a benefit of using wooden cups, but I'm not one of those people who opted to use wooden cups, wires, etc. for $1,000 or more.
