While I thought I'd gone with a design that would look better with a smoother finish (I thought the case had a smooth finish), I wasn't thrilled that it had more of a subtle "checkered" texture was. (If there's a name for it, I don't know it. LOL) The case itself is exactly as advertised! Not knowing the texture MAY be my oversight as I was in a hurry to complete the orders. All you have to do when picking up the iPad is press the tab against the back of the case against the round magnet. It gets up easily, falls asleep when you close the case and best of all: sits firmly in the case! If this thing falls out, it's going nowhere! Very durable!
