Review on Sony ICDUX560BLK Digital Voice Recorder by Marc Gallner

I actually like the rounded form factor of my old Olympus W700M better, it feels better in the hands even if the plastic used feels very cheap. The plastic looks a bit cheap here. The ultra matte finish is also pretty bad at absorbing oil. I mean, after just half an hour of handling, the surface is mottled with shiny spots. The display also absorbs oil, and for some reason you can't help but touch it. It's clear they were aiming for the look and feel of a high-end phone, but without the use of high-end materials. But that's not enough to deduct a star. It's still a 5 star product. I reused a small 4" USB extension cable from my Olympus which has the same USB connector as the Sony. Too bad the UX560 doesn't come with this cable. I recommend buying. .I bought this thanks to a Wirecutter review. This check says the display turns off and you can't turn that off. I was concerned about this because I like to annotate my handwritten notes with an audio timestamp (similar to the Notability ios app) so I can quickly find the audio associated with my notes. With the display off, this would be alarming. But it turns out it's configurable, so problem solved! Sony may have updated the firmware since the wire cutter test. I'm glad the wire cutter didn't mention the oil pickup issue because I wouldn't have bought it if I had known. But in practice I am so satisfied with the UX560 that I am motivated to write a review.
