Bought this to keep my dog out of places I'm not or to leave the door open. It works out. Unlike any other gate I've used. It is essentially a weave of fabric with three slots to accommodate the struts. The poles then have two adjustment options: Large changes in length are made by turning and extending the telescopic rod from the middle. Finely adjust and lock by turning the small ring at the end of the pressure pad. I find it a little tricky getting the bars to the right length and then fine tuning the lock. I just keep working and trying until I have all the bars installed and tightened. Now I can get my mail before the dog opens it.
