This is such a cute teether, especially if the person you are gifting it to or you love fitness and fitness-related topics. This is a really great prop for a mom/dad and me photo. It is both a teether and a rattle but I would say how each child will use it depends on how they use the rattle. Some kids might like to use this as a teether, although I found the "dumbbell" end to be too big. It doesn't make nibbling any easier, more like biting. The middle part is more flexible because the silicone is thinner there. Some kids may use it mainly as a toy because it makes a rattling sound when shaken. My toddler used it primarily as a rattle rather than a teether. We're talking 3 months and older here and although my baby is already 3 months old I'm pretty sure he didn't have the strength to grab this bar at that age. This is probably slightly more appropriate for a child aged 5-6 months and older, although this also depends on your child's strength. I'm not saying it's heavy (4.80 ounces) but it will be heavy for younger babies.
