Really very useful for needlework
To be honest, I'm a lousy artist. When printers came along, people (this person, at least) forgot about carbon paper. Finally, simply print out as many copies as you need. But carbon paper has other uses as well. I have a box that I want to paint. It will help me to finally do it. I can copy a beautiful design and then "paint by numbers" instead of just drawing a horrible mess. I bet if you think about it you will see how useful it can be.
