some reviewers say it is and some say it leaks. It's not airtight - it's not really gas-tight, but it's tight enough to keep it fresh for days. In fact, the lack of a gasket means it's not difficult to remove the cover if desired. If sealed, it would be difficult to remove the lid without crushing the inside of the lid with the icing. You can also use it on cupcakes, bread, muffins and anything that fits inside and if it had a real seal that stuff would get thrown around if you tried to open it. So --- that's good. Familiar Rubbermaid materials and quality. Sufficient size for a 9 inch cake with two layers on a plate in a container. I think a 3 layer cake would also work if the plate doesn't have much height, but I haven't tried it.
