After updating the firmware on the M9 to the current one (currently = 1.7), you can disable the app whitelist. APKMirror and similar sites will help you with that. With Windows 10, I was able to just plug it into my computer without any drivers. It just mounted normally without asking. It shows up in explorer on the MTP device so I can drag and drop files from there or use MediaMonkey or other similar applications. But the best apps I've installed on this device from APK Mirror (and yes, I paid for them through apps): Pocket Casts (podcasts - audio only) Simple Scrobbler (Last.FM Scrobbler. Version 1.5.7 is the one , which I use) PowerAmp (get version 3, build 876 - at least the ones I've been using) This gives you scrobbler support for Last.FM, high-resolution audio on M9 (up to 192kbps and DSD playback - and better interface than FIIO) and most importantly. Audio Podcasts where you can download new audio shows when connected to Wi-Fi. But after all the player is excellent and sounds very good. Really good. I liked my Samsung Tab S6 but it's not perfect with that and there's too much high end for my liking but it still sounds great. One thing you'll notice is that every instrument is audible, especially in high definition. I notice something in the background that I haven't heard before. and certainly not on the iPod. So if you're not sure whether Hi-Res Sound or this player is worth it, play a song that was originally recorded with analog gear, with lots of subtle background noise. Non-disco music of the 70's. but you can hear keyboards, cymbals, etc. that you may not have noticed before. Is it optimal? no It looks like there's a lack of reinforcement, and the apps you're trying to install probably won't work if they require a web browser. and many apps just crash. But they are whitelisted. and the ones I've listed above are working at the time of writing. Definitely do not regret buying this player. Not at all.
