Due to the coronavirus, children need a laptop to study online. I was considering buying a Chromebook as the performance requirements weren't too high but basically the same price as a budget Chromebook and I figured I could get this one which is MUCH more powerful, feature rich and with a much better and bigger IPS HD screen is. And many more options for the future when they get older and maybe want to run real PC applications like MS Office. Although it claims to be refurbished, it looks brand new and even has stickers on it (fairly easy to remove). It just doesn't come in the official box. It comes with Windows 10 S that restricts the installation of programs to the official Microsoft Store, but you can remove this restriction for free and very easily. After enabling and running many Windows security updates for the first time, and then uninstalling the old version of Windows (using the Windows Disk Cleanup tool), I was left with 95.5GB of free hard drive space, which is plenty in streaming times. everything and more than I would find in any Chromebook for the same price. I ordered additional RAM (you'll need a 260-pin DDR4 2666 1.2V SO-DIMM for a laptop), but even with the default 4GB, it seems fast enough for web browsing and Netflix. The keyboard is good, no problems with the trackpad. The speakers are ok, nothing amazing but not terrible either. It comes with a power cable and the laptop itself looks quite nice in its aluminum silver finish. And while it's definitely not for today's gamers, it can run Minecraft well, which was a big problem for kids. Older games should run on it too, but don't expect top-notch graphics. Main cons: It's a bit heavier and bigger than I expected, but nothing outrageous. There is no touch screen. Key Pros: Incredible price of $270. which is really hard to find on computers under $300. Multiple USB ports. It's easy to upgrade memory and storage, allowing it to compete with laptops in the $600+ price range. Use the $80 you saved on repairs to get more RAM. I work in tech and would highly recommend this to a friend or family member who is looking for an entry-level PC for basic computing like web browsing and Netflix. I can't understand how good value for money it is!
