Towels look dirty and shrink strangely when packed

Simpli-Magic 79171 Terry Cloths, pack of 50, standard white boxed retail packaging. When opening the inner packaging, the towels smelled a bit musty. In any case, I always wash new towels before use because you never know how much dirt they'll pick up on the shelf, and washing and drying the towels fluffs them up and makes them work better. Flat packed towels are off-white, tending towards light grey/dirty beige rather than white. I hope they turn white after washing. When I counted towels in the washing machine, and there are exactly 50 towels, I found two dead bugs. I have no idea what these bugs are, but they were small, about 3/8 inch long and looked like silverfish? Of course I will wash them separately in cold water and add some bleach to make sure they are clean. After washing and tumble drying, towels appear whiter and naturally fluffier. as expected. I was expecting the size to go down a bit, hence that fluffiness, but. The original measurements were approximately 12 and 1/4 squares and the washed measurements were 12 inches by 10 inches. This is kind of an unusual shrinkage pattern. The only thing I can think of is that this could be the reason for how the machine pulls on the fabric when sewing the edges. So my square towels are all rectangles now. Otherwise, I don't have any major complaints about these towels, but the shrink pattern is bizarre.
