I usually wear bigger earrings but I love opals and you won't find anything great about opals unless you wear very expensive jewelry. This is a synthetic opal and as small as they are it's hard to tell what synthetic type they are. They appear to be the best plastics (although only based on what my eye can see without a magnifying glass), they have good play of color, they are not opal glass and they don't just look like mica flakes and/or streaks of opalescent mylar in resin . They may have been grown in a lab, but the list wasn't specific. The most important thing for me is that they have real opal color play and they certainly are. They catch the light and look beautiful from across the room too. I have several metal sensitive ones and they don't irritate my ears. I've worn them all day for several days in a row (only taking them off before bed and before showering) and never once felt any redness or itching. So if you're sensitive, you can probably wear them safely.
