On Alienware 13r3 the Ballistix Sport LT 16GB kit is said to run at ONLY 2400MHz (on i7-7700HQ Kaby Lake), although G.Skill's Ripjaws kit runs at 2666MHz (without BIOS setup) runs flawlessly on the same laptop hardware. If you don't care about nanosecond differences, this is a great kit. But the principle is that if the BIOS doesn't support XMP overclocking, it will never run above 2400MHz.
