This filter used to be made of a denser material that holds more dirt. Now the material is rougher and breaks much faster. I have an AQ 110 in all my large tanks, but to keep the sponge from spoiling I bought an extra sponge, cut it into three pieces and used it as a pre-filter on the inlet pipe. This extends the life of the sponge in the filter. I wash the pre-filter once a week and everything is fine. We also changed the material of the sponges for the Fluval series. Too bad they felt the need to change. As the old saying goes, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. And for AquaClear and Fluval, they had to leave it alone. And for that I gave 3 stars.
