When I ordered these (and a few other similar containers) I thought the clear containers were as clear as they come. I later discovered that IRIS creates a transparent blue version of some containers, which ends up being more transparent despite being blue. And I think blue looks pretty cool. In hindsight I should have searched more and tried to find clear blue versions of these, although I don't know if they make them. The transparent blue ones were a different size. Therefore you may not be able to find clear ones in the right size/quantity or they may be more expensive. In this case, translucent ones are really good. You can still see what's inside. I believe the official name for translucent is "Pearl". Be sure to buy the one with the transparent lid. For example, some bins have a solid white lid so you can't see inside, which is a shame. They have a transparent lid which is great. I like that there are closures. I like this a lot more than the one where the lid just snaps open because the snaps are easier to use and stay closed better. The clasps are good. The style of the clasps is not perfect however, IMO I have several containers that I received a long time ago that have a movable clasp on the lid. These IRIS have a latch on the bin, which I don't think works either. I couldn't find any (from any company) with latches on the lid, so I went with these. And they're fine. You simply click the latch with your thumb, not your fingers. This is a small moment. A batch I received was defective and the clasps fell off so I exchanged that batch. I've only seen this issue in one batch, but I've bought many of them. I assume it was just an accident. These IRIS containers were priced the same as the alternatives, but I was surprised at how much they cost. All the containers I received (several types from different companies) seemed expensive to me. I spent about $400 on trash cans while reorganizing my basement, which seems crazy! But containers last forever and are way better than boxes, so I guess that's fine. I would recommend spending more on quality, thick containers with these closures because I think it will really pay off in the long run. I expect to be using the same trash cans in 20 years, so it would be unwise to spend 20 years with poor quality trash cans just to save a few bucks. It is better to invest in such good ones. Buy a lot because you can always find something to put in. Even if you don't fill them all at once, you'll eventually want more later, and it's nice when they all fit together.
