My only photographic constant is

I've had this tripod for about six years now. During that time I switched from the 450D to the 5D Mark IV, from a kit lens to faster zooms and faster primes. I never felt the need to upgrade my tripod. The thing is solidly built. The clips that hold the retractable legs in place are very easy to use. It is extremely practical that I can extend a set completely and then use the center column to lift the camera to eye level for taking pictures. It's also extremely stable. A few years ago I took some early morning shots in Bryce Canyon. It was very windy then but this thing held my camera securely in place and I took very clear pictures. I also accidentally hit it while shooting and it's stable enough that your kit won't tip over easily; this saved thousands of dollars worth of photographic equipment from falling into Reflection Lake due to my clumsiness while taking the morning shot of Mount Rainier. The quick release plate is very secure and won't move unless you want it to. It easily holds my 5D Mark IV and 70-200mm f/2.8 lens in portrait mode. A quick release sleeve keeps things in place if you accidentally forget to lock the locking plate with the locking lever. Although I've never tried it, the center column can be folded down, if you want to take pictures with the camera close to the ground. The Pangol features two bubble levels for easy leveling. I find this tripod very handy. I've taken it to many national parks in the US, Canada, England and India. Whether I was traveling, taking this tripod as carry-on luggage, checking it in, or having it delivered by courier to my destination, he happily endured all of this abuse. He also lived in the trunk or on the floor of my car for several months and was badly beaten. And the only sign of all those adventures and brawls on it is the scraped paint on the pan head. There is not a single tear on the foam grip and the manufacturer's logo printed on the foam is still legible. I recently had the opportunity emailing Slik support about two issues: I needed help installing a ball head and the stop plate eventually started slipping in the mount in portrait mode with a heavy camera/lens. They responded to both emails within two hours with extremely helpful and very simple instructions and in the event of a problem with the locking plate, a detailed diagram showing how to adjust the idler wheel to keep the plate in place. I was considering a Manfrotto ball head, but was so impressed with the service that I bought a Slik model. Overall this is a very well built, easy to use and very effective tripod. Slik also seems to back this up with great tech support. I just can't recommend it more. Update - I am now using it for long exposure astrophotography, which is one of the most demanding uses I can think of. It's easy to install something like iOptron on it. Rock; easily handles a heavy counterweight, my 5D IV and a 70-200+1.4x extension.
