Review on Gates 43272P Water Pump by Shree Carmean

This is a reverse rotation water pump! If your water pump has a slippery pulley, this is the right replacement. If your pulley has ribs, it's not the right pulley. Reverse rotation means it rotates in the opposite direction of the rotation of the cranks. So if your crank turns clockwise, this pump should turn counter-clockwise. If the belt is installed incorrectly, water will be drawn from the upper radiator hose and pumped through the block to the lower radiator hose. This causes air to overheat in the top tube and prevents coolant from circulating. The correct way to bleed is to suck in at the lower radiator hose and pump from the top of the engine back to the upper radiator hose. This is how all water pumps work. Caution: Operate only when the engine is cold. To check if it's pumping properly, simply loosen and remove the top hose on the engine or radiator and start the engine. If coolant is leaking from the top of the engine or the top hose, you have installed it correctly. Rinse and dry with a hair dryer so that the engine does not hum and emit steam. If water is not flowing from the top hose, you may have an incorrect turn or not enough coolant in the radiator to run the pump. Check the level and try again, no flow means wrong rotation. By the way, this pump delivers more coolant than a conventional water pump, this is the performance version. Hence the letter R in the part number. Works great for staying cool. I hope this clears up any misconceptions about the reverse rotating water pump. I had to find out for myself, so I figured my search might be helpful. Have fun driving.
