This item works great as long as you use thinly sliced bread. Thin slices are key to making great grilled cheese in minutes. Remove the shells, lower the toaster lever and press the preheat button (the preheat button will turn red). Once it floats (1-2 minutes) it's preheated and ready to toast. In order for it to work, it needs to be properly warmed up! Turn the "Toast" knob all the way to 7. Spread each slice of bread with a thin layer of butter and no more than two slices of cheese. Prepare the buttered bread and cheese before preheating so you can quickly pick up the pieces on the baking sheets (note which way the buttered sides are facing), then set them back. You want the sandwiches to be assembled. and after preheating back into the toaster as soon as possible. Push the toast lever back down and you're done. That's all it takes to make the perfect grilled cheese. The entire process from start to finish, making two sandwiches at once, takes 5 minutes. You can prepare one or two grilled cheeses at the same time. It works both for cooking and for cooking two. Great kitchen gadget quick and easy enough for my 7 year old to use.
