Doesn't overshadow Metabones, but has a unique character

This Commlite adapter does what you expect: reduces the effective focal length and brightens the image. The build materials feel solid and the adapter itself is a good weight. The tripod collar is also very tight, so don't worry about using it as the main attachment point. The only downside is that the optics don't quite come close to Metabones. Within 1 stop from a fully open camera, there is noticeable softness, especially in the corners of the footage. It was exhausting enough for me that I finally bought Metabones and now that I have them around, For brighter apertures there is a significant difference in overall clarity. Another issue I found between the two is that the degree of focus shift when zooming in or out (or lack of parfocality) was more pronounced with the Commlite adapter. There are known fixes for this with the Viltrox EF-M2 and Metabones adapters by adjusting the position of the optics in the speedbooster relative to the lens, but I couldn't think of an easy way to rotate the optics with the Commlite adapter to do this to see if this works to ameliorate the lack of parfocality mentioned above. Of course, the focus shift is much less pronounced with the Metabones, and I didn't really have to make any adjustments compared to the default settings. Overall I would say that Commlite does the main job, and if you like a softer, dreamier image for portraiture or narrative work, this is probably the way to go. It definitely adds character. But if, like me, you seek optical clarity and work more with landscapes or astro objects; or if you shoot wide open most of your footage I'd recommend abandoning Commlite and just using the good old gold standard Metabones adapter.
