I don't know much about basketball greats so it's my ignorance because I got much smaller balls than I expected. Didn't need regular NBA/COLLEGE sizing for my 9 year old who was born with three fingers on each hand, slightly smaller. I read the reviews and somewhere they said it was good for an 8 year old. My son is 9 years old and I got him a basketball hoop. After reading this review I thought these 'mini balls' were perfect for his age. FALSE but luckily we have a 5 year old and balls are perfect for him to learn how to bounce, dribble and shoot. Also, my husband and I play with it because it's not easy to go from "regular" size to miniature. But I would definitely recommend them for a young child just learning to control the ball.
