My dishwasher was spewing water out of the sink air gap which caused a secondary problem as water was leaking through the air gap meter hole to the bottom of my sink. Take a paper towel and place it across the [open] air gap and blow to allow the air pressure to dislodge the debris. I did, and it actually came out (hooray!). Unfortunately, the problem with the gap between water and air remained. Then I disassembled the hose that connected to my user to see if the connector (forget the name) had probably punched a hole. What I found was disgusting. The black pipe was full of dirt. Pooh. I put everything back together, took this pipe cleaner and ran it about 3 times. I then checked that the hole/pipe was clear by tilting the shower head in the sink, turning on hot water and running it through the hole. It was a good test because the first two times I cleaned with this tool the water pooled and didn't drain properly. The third or fourth time I did it! tl; dr • it fits in the vent hole of my kitchen sink (which leads to disposal) • run it a few times to get the dirt out • have paper towels handy and use them to splatter the dirt in all directions when the Bristles come out • Test tube trajectory by passing hot water through it after each use of the tool
