I'm a homeowner who likes to do my own jobs and this device provides the security you need when working on the roof all day. I found that I could tie myself to a riser and the rope would not ride up the pipe. The brake function works immediately and you can only move on the rope if you actively try to advance the brake on the rope. Like a dead man's switch, it stops movement unless you want to lengthen or shorten your game. The rope is thick enough that I can lean back with it or hold onto it to climb a steep slope. Use in combination with a safety harness. Recommend.
