Too rough for expensive lenses! Oil and dirt are not washed off. BUT. I modified mine and use it every day now. I removed the pads and replaced the rough, cheap "microfiber" with circles I cut out of good microfiber cloth that eye doctors provide. The reclaimed plastic spacers snap right back into place and hold my stuff well. Now they work great. Too bad the original "Microfabric" pads are of such poor quality. I really like the concept, I didn't have to repeat it myself. I hope they update the material.
