The originally purchased cable will be visible to the Win 7 laptop, but it will not even be recognized by the test program, which the technical support forcibly passed. "Putty" did the swap and the 2nd wire will be visible to their diagnostic program but still not to my third party program which is looking for a serial input. General feeling if you can get away with another type, put another, and then with a serial converter DO IT, it was all a waste of a week and a half of my time. For example I bought a LONO 2 board / Aurdino board which is USB and worked on all my computers on the first try.
