There is a magnet on each end and you need both magnets to keep the wiper on any surface you stick to. For example, if I attach a mop to the steel leg of my workbench, it will dangle and fall or possibly slide off if I only attach it with a magnet. Once you line it up to wear both, it sticks great. Think of it as a comfy stick on the machine to keep your hand free, but not strong enough to hold the material on the machine without moving. In terms of stiffness, they're stiffer than regular blue wipers, which is fine, and the foam felt is good. Overall I really like them and will use a lot of them. Just make sure the magnets are strong enough to hold the scraper.
