First of all I don't know why the product page says the rug is 4ft x 2ft. This is not the case - its diameter is 47 inches (47 in). But other than that small size issue, I love this playmat! It's so beautiful and the quality is great. The print is flawless, as is the processing. Carpet. It can be used indoors as a large, lightly padded play mat, but thanks to the waterproof center panel, can also be used outdoors as a road mat for outdoor seating during a picnic or outdoor activity. It's also perfect for the beach because it's waterproof. I love that my baby won't outgrow it - we can use it for years. The cotton and rug are very soft (and the cotton is organic). This rug is lightly darned. I love a nice, natural design on the rug. The rug is quite thick compared to a blanket or towel, and the waterproof layer in the middle prevents dew or moisture from getting in from the floor (and vice versa) without damaging the Waterproof padding feels wonderful. It's (thankfully) machine washable. It's also really cute to photograph because it has a neutral but light background and a fairly round shape - and it's reversible, giving you two printing options. It is well packed as a gift. I also ordered a matching "road mat" in a square shape. They are the same in design, quality and softness. But this blanket is a little softer than the travel blanket. And this mat does not come with the matching storage bag that comes with the travel mat. This one is round and the other one is more square. Aside from these differences, they are largely the same. I am very happy with this rug (and others).
